1920’s Mugshots of Modern Celebrities

Being a good, law-abiding citizen isn’t easy for some people, and celebrities are no different. For those who like to play dangerously and flirt with the wrong side of the law, a little souvenir is presented to them to commemorate the event: a mugshot.

These photos are anything but flattering. The glare of harsh fluorescent lights, a bright orange jumpsuit, and the accompanying look on the persons face are a recipe for disaster. Granted, if you’ve just committed a crime, the law doesn’t give a hoot about how you look when they bring you into a precinct.

However, in the 1920’s, mugshots had “an eerie beauty to them” explains advertising art director Michael Jason Enriquez. He decided to Photoshop images of present day celebrity mugshot faces into the backdrop of 1920’s mugshots.

Do you see any eerie beauty to these pictures?

It probably helped that in the 1920’s, criminals or law offenders were allowed to wear their own garb for the picture. That definitely does add to the aesthetic of these pictures. Present day offenders will just have to settle for the unflattering photo conditions that currently exist. Or, you know, they could always just obey the law.
